Two performances by the KUYUM Dance Platform will once again be accompanied by audio description this year: Wireless headphones will be used to describe what is happening on stage during the performance. The performances are as follows:

Audio description enables blind and visually impaired people to access the visual elements of a play: it describes, among other things, movements, gestures, facial expressions, the set design, costumes, and props. 

We begin with an introduction to the play and a haptic access tour of the stage, during which audience members can explore stage elements and the stage space by touch under the guidance of the audio description writer. 

The meeting point for the introduction and haptic access tour is one hour before the performance at the box office in front of Studio 14. 

Registration is preferred but not required.

If needed, we offer a walking pickup service for blind and visually impaired individuals from the Osloer Straße subway station. The station is equipped with a tactile guidance system. “SPOKEN DANCE – Artistic Audio Description in Dance”

Sunday, September 20, 1:30–4:30 p.m., Studio 2

Naomi Sanfo-Ansorge, a blind and visually impaired dancer, access dramaturg, and dance educator, invites participants to explore and experiment with various approaches to artistic audio description. 

Through a blend of movement-based and descriptive practice, theory, discussion, and hands-on experimentation, participants will explore creative approaches to artistic audio description and examine its power-critical dimensions. 

Verbal descriptions of dance and performance will be interwoven with sound, rhythm, touch, and other sensory dimensions. Participants can take on various roles, including as performers, witnesses, and describers. 

Spoken Dance is a network project of blind, visually impaired, and sighted artists who engage in research on artistic audio description and aesthetic accessibility in dance.

In this edition, accessibility is given greater consideration across a range of workshops. Several movement-based workshops can be adapted to suit different groups, including intergenerational participants, people with no dance experience, and people with diverse physical abilities or mobility impairments.

Reduced-price tickets are available for students, recipients of social assistance or unemployment benefits, holders of a severe disability ID card, apprentices, and recipients of benefits under the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act.

People with a severe disability ID card receive a reduced-price ticket (book online or in person at the box office; reservations by email or phone) .

If you attend the performance with a companion, they will receive a free ticket at the box office. Please inform Kuyum in advance if you need a companion ticket. To do so, please send an email with the subject line “Companion” to: info@kuyumarts.de

Directions by Public Transportation:

The best way to reach the Uferstudios by public transportation is via the Pankstraße subway station (U8; bus lines M27 and N8) or the Osloer Straße subway station (U8 and U9; tram lines M13 and 50; bus lines 150, 255, N8, N9, and N52).

The Osloer Straße subway station has an elevator and a tactile guidance system for the visually impaired. From there, it is approximately 600 meters to the Uferstudios.

The Pankstraße subway station is approximately 400 meters from the Uferstudios; however, it is currently under renovation and therefore not accessible without steps at this time. 

If needed, we offer a walking pickup service for people with disabilities, e.g., from the Osloer Straße subway station.

Venue Information
Performances at Studio 14: accessible (no steps)

Studio 14 is located almost at ground level. There are no raised areas or similar obstacles inside the studio itself; from the outside to the studio entrance, there is a slight slope of 1.0%. Studio 14 has two wheelchair-accessible seats.

Workshop Venues and Youth Workshop Presentation.

Workshops in Studio 1:
Studio 1 has a floor area that is lowered by 1.5 meters and can only be accessed via seven steps. Therefore, the lower level of the studio is not wheelchair accessible. The upper level can be accessed step-free and includes two wheelchair spaces.

Workshops in Studio 2: 
Step-free (wheelchair-accessible):Studio 2 is step-free. It features a raised wooden floor, which can be accessed via a landing ramp with a 1.5% gradient.

Presentation inclusive Youth Workshop – Friday, 18 September 2026, 3:00 p.m.

The public final presentation of the one-week inclusive youth workshop “Move Together, Dance Connects,” held in cooperation with Albrecht-Dürer-Gymnasium, will take place in Studio 1. A limited number of wheelchair-accessible spaces are available (see the accessibility information for Studio 1 above).

Bar/Snacks:
The bar and snacks (Studio 13) are accessible (no steps) in the entrance area in front of Studio 14.

There are two step-free, accessible toilets with showers (measuring 2.6 m x 2.1 m) on the premises. The door width of the respective sanitary facilities is 0.95 m. The toilets are located in the foyer of Studios 3, 4, and 5, as well as in the extension of the boiler house complex (by the chimney), which is accessible via a 1.2 m wide ramp with a 5.2% incline and a length of 6.60 m.

The box office (Studio 13) opens one hour before the start of the performance and is located in the entrance area in front of Studio 14. Tickets can also be purchased at the box office, subject to availability. Prices: see “Tickets, prices, and discounts”. 

Staff are available at the box office to answer questions and, where possible, to respond to special needs and provide assistance. We endeavor to provide spontaneous assistance on site, but cannot guarantee support if this has not been arranged in advance.

We strive to provide individual information about possible triggers and accessibility for each performance and workshop. This includes information about lighting, volume, special effects such as fog, possible content triggers, seating, and audience situation.

During the festival, staff will be available at the box office to answer questions and respond to special needs as far as possible. We endeavor to provide spontaneous assistance on site, but cannot guarantee support if this has not been arranged in advance.

If required, we offer a pick-up service on foot for people with disabilities from the Osloer Straße subway station (see above) by prior arrangement.

There are two disabled parking spaces in the courtyard of the Uferstudios. These are located next to the dance office (marked with blue signs) and in front of the extension to the boiler house complex, to the right of the chimney.

The Uferstudios site can be accessed via two ground-level entrances, which are usually open Monday to Friday from approximately 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and are therefore freely accessible during these times. The entrance at Badstraße 41a is 1.10 m wide and is not intended for vehicles. Vehicles may only enter the site via the entrance at Uferstraße 23. There are also currently traffic restrictions on Uferstraße due to renovation work.
