This workshop invites participants into the world of Afro-Somatic Techniques. Through the deconstruction of Afro-Urban dance—a synthesis of traditional West African dances, Caribbean dance traditions from Haiti and Cuba, and Western contemporary dance—participants are introduced to a practice that fosters a sense of freedom in both body and mind.
Afro-Somatic is rooted in grounding, breath, and mobility, creating a continuous dialogue between the cosmos and nature. Improvisation and live musical accompaniment play a central role, alongside the defining qualities of African dance: dynamic energy, rhythmic complexity, grounded movement, and uplift.
Participants are kindly asked to bring a loincloth or a large scarf measuring at least one metre in length.
