Kinderdisco - Kuyumtanzplattform-2026
Flip-Flop

Kinderdisco

The KUYUM Tanzplattform and the Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) invite children and families to a fun-filled day of rhythm, music, dance and storytelling as part of the 2026 Children’s Disco at the HKW.

The festival celebrates contemporary African dance and puts BIPoC artists in the spotlight. Audiences of all ages are welcome to discover movement, creativity and playing together.

As well as dancing to the sounds of DJ K’Boko (Brazil/Germany), visitors can enjoy creative stations offering craft activities, games and children’s books. A special highlight of the programme is the dance performance Flip-Flop! by Nasheeka Nedsreal (USA/Germany) and Theater o.N., winner of Berlin’s IKARUS Prize.

This poetic, wordless performance opens up a playful world in which clothing transforms into movement and the body becomes a space for imagination and discovery. Flip-Flop invites children and families to dream, experiment and create their own worlds together.

Join us and experience a lively day full of music, movement and shared imagination!

An event series by Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW). The programme on September 13 is created in cooperation with KUYUM Arts and is part of KUYUM Tanzplattform 2026.

The KUYUM Tanzplattform 2026 is funded by the Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion. With the kind support of Uferstudios Berlin, Theaterhaus Berlin, and Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW).

What could be more magical than letting your imagination run wild? You may not remember, but there was a time in our lives when everything was new and in flux, and we were constantly busy forging connections with the world around us. It lasted barely the blink of an eye. Flip: our clothes become toys. Flop: our bodies become a game. And so we invent an entire universe and experiment with different ways of being and relating to one another and to the world.
