This dance performance takes a personal look at the city of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania; individual stories create a vivid picture and the future of this city casts its shadow.
Tadhi Alawi was born in the Mwananyamala slum of Dar es Salaam. He grew up in different parts of the city and witnessed many changes. Inspired and influenced by the lifestyle and community that surrounded him growing up, he found his own way to project his voice through movement.
The idea for this project came from the questions he asked himself: How has the community and the city changed over the years? What would Dar es Salaam be without Ujamaa? And what would the country be without Umoja.
