Dance aesthetics and sign language

With Dodzi Dougban

Deaf professional dancer Dodzi Dougban shares his experiences of dancing and deafness, as well as the cultural differences between hearing and deaf people. What is it like to move and dance without hearing?

Through dances and improvisations from his repertoire, he passes on his dance experience to participants. The focus is on perceiving diverse contexts in which people who do not hear, sign, hear, have very different energies and walk or sit in wheelchairs all meet, confront and influence each other.

The workshop offers a practical experience within a diverse aesthetic framework. Participants are invited to attend the shows in the KUYUM programme and talk to Dodzi Dougban and the respective show’s artists after the performances. These will be accompanied by sign language interpreters.
