In the Chuma-Chuma workshop, traditional Tanzanian dances merge with contemporary movement ideas and your own personality. Participants are invited on a fascinating journey between tradition and individual creativity! Rather than copying movements, you will break the boundaries of your own body, developing new forms of expression and your own dance style.
„Chuma“ means both „iron” and „pluck“ in Swahili – a metaphor for the strength and flexibility that will be explored together in the workshop. Different types of movement are tried out, compared and combined; they are experimented with and reinvented. Reflection techniques serve as a ritual and at the same time provide exciting insights into the Tanzanian dance scene. The exchange of stories about traditional movements and personal experiences helps to develop one’s own dance identity and movement language.
