Black Cyborg or if I had a heart for whom would it beat (reimagined)

Victor Stone is one of the few black superheroes in the DC Comics universe; he is a cyborg and embodies a futuristic archetype – a beacon of technological progress and the potential evolution of humanity.

His portrayal as a cyborg in series such as ‘Justice League’ reflects entrenched racial stereotypes and idealised constructs, thus conforming to the dominant narratives of the white imagination. But despite these biased representations, Victor Stone also represents a compelling utopian vision.

With „Black Cyborg“, the black American dancer and performer Zen Jefferson profoundly reinterprets the concept. Created in 2017 in collaboration with choreographer Christoph Winkler, this re-evaluation is in a nuanced dialogue with the original work. Jefferson navigates the complex terrain of race, identity and theatre, inviting audiences to confront and question the intersections that define our social landscape.
