Participants on this workshop will learn several traditional dances from Burkina Faso, mainly from the West African ethnic groups of the Gouroussi, Turka, Fulfulde, Gourmatchéma, Warba and Samo peoples. Through small choreographies, participants will explore how traditional styles can be incorporated into Afro-urban expression.
Powerful rhythms and varied tempos are combined with the joie de vivre of Burkina Faso. Deconstructing African dance as an Afro-urban expression fuses contemporary and traditional styles, incorporating elements of street dance, mask dance and modern dance.
