Nora Amin

Performer (dancer/actress/vocalist), choreographer, author, theatre director and scholar/researcher/lecturer. Fellow of the centre for Theatre of the Oppressed (Brazil, 2003), founder of Lamusica Independent Theatre group (Egypt, 2000) where she choreographed, directed & produced 50 performances of dance, theatre & music. Founder of The Nation-wide Egyptian Project for Theatre of the Oppressed and its Arab network (Lebanon, Sudan & Morocco), fellow of the Academy of the Arts of the World (Cologne, 2015), fellow of the International Research Centre for Interweaving Performance Cultures (FU, 2015-2016), Valeska-Gert guest professor for dance sciences (FU, 2018), visiting lecturer at the centre for contemporary dance (Köln, 2020/2023/2024), workshop instructor at Tanzfabrik (2019-2024), at Berlin Mondiale (2020-2024), at Sasha Waltz & Guests (community dance, 2022) and Mentor/Expert at PAP (Performing Arts Program/LAFT Berlin) and Flausen+bundesnetzwerk program (2018-2024).

Her latest books are “Migrating the Feminie”, on sexual violence as a political weapon (2018) and “Dance of the Persecuted” (2021), a feminist perspective on the history of Baladi dance in Egypt linking coloniality with patriarchy and capitalism, published by MSB Matthes & Seitz, Berlin. She was the main curator of the symposium POSITIONS:DANCE#4 Creating Access #Diversity by Dachverband Tanz Deutschland (PACT Zollverein, Essen 2021), co-curator of the symposium on Equity in the Performing Arts by Save the world, Theater Treffen, Akademie der Künste and the German Centre of the International Theatre Institute (2022), and curator of “The Other Body?” On Racism in Dance, by Offensive Tanz für Junges Publikum and Tanzpakt (2020). She is a frequent collaborator with boat people projekt (Werkraum, Göttingen), and a board member of the German Centre of the International Theatre Institute, and member of the scientific committee of the Barba Varley Foundation headed by Ariane Mnouchkine. She holds a PhD in cultural policies from the university of Hildesheim. Her artistic work focuses on dance as activism & resistance, the decolonisation of dance practise, performance as a live archive of memory, feminist empowerment, contemporary participatory rituals, transcultural knowledge, and trauma healing. Her acclaimed productions in Germany are ten: Earthport, Tracings, HAARE, Migrating the Feminine, Rite of Revival, Reinventing Memories, MY DANCE, Re-rooting, WOUND and HEALING.

  • No changing rooms or showers
  • You can change in the studio or in the restroom
  • No elevator
