Kuyum Dance Platform 2026
Ready for new perspectives in the world of dance?
The KUYUM Tanzplattform 2026 invites you to a unique festival that presents and promotes neo-African choreography, bringing together international artists of both African and non-African origin who incorporate these practices into their work. The festival kicks off on 12 and 13 September at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) and continues from 16 to 20 September at Uferstudios Berlin.
But what exactly is neo-African dance? It combines techniques, aesthetic principles and performative forms of expression from African dance traditions with contemporary choreography. Emerging from transcultural encounters and experiences in the diaspora, it opens up new artistic perspectives on the body, movement and identity. In a nutshell, the focus is on contemporary dance practices inspired by African movement languages, translating these into innovative choreographic forms.
In this year’s sixth edition, the KUYUM Tanzplattform presents a total of nine highcalibre dance productions, including two world premieres and five Berlin premieres. The stage programme is complemented by workshops, meet-up events and discussion forums, which invite dance enthusiasts of all ages to exchange ideas, network and learn together. In various dance workshops, participants will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the diverse rhythms and movement languages of the African continent. The festival sees itself as a diverse and inclusive space that promotes artistic participation, encounters and cultural exchange.
Join us and help shape this space for transcultural movement. We will be publishing the detailed programme and a list of all participating artists in the coming weeks – stay tuned!
